Ben Pines explores a life of thought and feeling in his work. His meditative paintings and drawings hold a subtle psychological charge. Subjects in his work are caught between the circumstances of their everyday environment, and a timeless idea of classical balance. Contemporary issues of family,
communication, culture, and human relationship to the environment play a role in his work. Ben is
inspired to be an artist by the people and places in his everyday life.
His work includes portrait, landscape, and figure paintings in oil and acrylic, and drawings in charcoal, pastel, and graphite.
Ben received his MFA in Painting from Indiana University Bloomington, and also holds a Certificate in Painting from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art in Philadelphia, and degrees from Tufts University and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Ben lives and works in Bloomington, Indiana, and teaches Color/Design at Ivy Tech Community College, as well as offering private lessons in drawing and
painting.
